I came across a meme that made me laugh the other day:
“How can psychology majors be depressed…bro, just look at your notes.”
In reality though, psychology students and yes, even your therapist, still have stuff they work through, and yes, even sometimes still struggle with their own mental health battles. As students and soon-to-be-therapists we have research and we have best practices, but no one has an "answer" to happiness or the meaning of life. No one has the “answer” to how to be right now. No one ever will, and that's part of the beauty of being human.
At the end of the day, we simply have process. Therapists get the honor of sometimes being a part of that process, be it through holding space, or creating or providing resources and tools. But no one, not even us, escapes the work themselves.
