Virtual Therapy in LA & CA

Many of my clients prefer online therapy - even if they live in the LA area - given tight schedules, distance, or a need for increased flexibility. Many clients also use the opportunity to work with me from elsewhere in the state, as it gives them greater choice in who they find the best fit with.

The benefits of online therapy are many, and can include:

  • Reduced geographical limitations related to the therapist you can access or choose to work with

  • Decreased commute and time spent in the car getting to and from your therapist

  • Increased flexibility for clients juggling the demands of particular jobs, childcare needs, etc.

  • Decreased risk for immunocompromised clients due to COVID-19

Online Therapy FAQ

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

While there are many advantages and disadvantages to working online that will be unique to each client and their individual preferences, to-date research generally supports that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy.

What’s the difference between working privately with a therapist online, and using a mental health platform like Betterhelp or Talkspace?

New platforms like Betterhelp and Talkspace are limited in the services they provide, and do not claim to substitute for traditional face-to-face therapy in most cases. Online sessions with a private therapist generally keep the same structure as traditional in-person therapy (50 -minute sessions weekly or bi-weekly), which allows us to build the type of relationship and do the kind of deep healing that lasting change usually requires.

Do I have to be in the same state to do virtual therapy?

All virtual clients must be California residents to work with me.

Can I do some in-person and online therapy?

Many of my clients at some point or another end up meeting both online and in-person over the course of therapy. I often see regular in-person clients via telehealth when they have a conflict or are traveling, and I often invite regular online clients who are in the LA area to come in and meet when I have intermittent openings due to cancellations or other ad hoc availability. If you are in need of a particular set-up, reach out and I would be happy to discuss more.
